Their Future
A Sickle-Free Nigeria
We are committed to breaking the cycle of Sickle Cell Disease in Nigeria — empowering communities through knowledge, advocacy, and action, so that no child is born into pain that could have been prevented.
What is Sickle Disease?
Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a genetic blood disorder that causes red blood cells to become hard, sticky, and shaped like a sickle.
These abnormal cells block blood flow, leading to severe pain, organ damage, infections, and early death.
THEIR REALITY
1 in 4 Nigerians carries the sickle cell trait (HbAS).
4 to 6 million people are currently living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).
In some communities, SCD causes up to 80% of childhood deaths before age 5.
In Nigeria, life expectancy for those with SCD is under 20 years — less than half that of developed countries.
